Professor Derya Oktay 's research has re-introduced Famagusta to the World Literature

urdc Director Professor Derya Oktay's study titled "The Quality of Urban Life and Neighbourhood Satisfaction in Famagusta" was published as a chapter (Chapter 10) in a major book Investigating Quality of Urban Life: Theory, Methods, and Empirical Research (Eds: R. W. Marans & R. Stimson) by the highly reputable publisher Springer. Oktay' chapter, co-authored with Prof. Dr. Ahmet Rustemli, first provides an overview of Famagusta where the study was conducted. It then reviews the methodology used to carry out the research. Next, selected findings covering overall quality of urban life (QOUL), neighborhood satisfaction, the assessment of neighborhood attributes, and other community issues are presented. Finally, the uses of the findings for policy, planning and design are discussed, along opportunities for further analysis of the data. Professor Oktay expressed her pleasure with the publication of this new book chapter reflecting on Famagusta Area Study as a part of a framework including big cities/states Detroit, Phoenix, Istanbul, Salzburg, Brisbane, Queensland and Washington, and re-introducing Famagusta study into the world literature after several international journal articles and conference papers published in the last few years.
