Writing Competition on "City-War/Peace" for Middle School Students (available in Turkish Only)

Doğu Akdeniz Üniversitesi Kentsel Araştırma ve Geliştirme Merkezi (DAÜ KENT-AG), KKTC Milli Eğitim ve Kültür Bakanlığı onayıyla, ortaokul öğrencilerine yönelik Kompozisyon yarışması düzenliyor!

KKTC Milli Eğitim ve Kültür Bakanlığı'na bağlı tüm ortaokulların 6., 7. ve 8. Sınıf öğrencilerine yönelik düzenlenecek olan 'Kent-Savaş/Barış' başlıklı kompozisyon yarışması, gençleri; kişiler, toplumlar, ülkeler arası anlaşmazlıklardan kaynaklanan savaşların, insan yaşamının yeşerdiği kentleri nasıl etkilediklerini ve değiştirdiklerini düşünmeye teşvik ederek;  barışın, insan ve kentlerin gelişiminde ne kadar önemli olduğuna vurgu yapmayı amaçlıyor.  Bu kapsamda gençler, savaşların kentlerimizi (yapılı – doğal çevreyi ve insanı) nasıl etkilediği; savaş sonrası kentlerin karşılaştığı sorunların neler olduğu ve bu sorunların aşılmasında kişi ve kurumların rolünün ne olması gerektiği yönünde sorgulamalar yapmaya davet ediliyor.  Yarışma temel anlamda;

  • Gençlerimizin, sorgulama, araştırma ve kendilerini yazıyla ifade edebilme yeteneklerinin geliştirilmesine katkıda bulunmak,

  • Kente, dünyaya, savaşa, barışa bakış açılarını geliştirmek,

  • Kentlerimizin değişimi ile ilgili farkındalık yaratmak,

hedefi ile düzenleniyor. Toplam yedi kişiden oluşan yarışmanın seçici kurulunda, DAÜ Türkçe ve Sosyal Bilimler Eğitimi Bölümü Başkanı Prof.Dr. Ahmet Pehlivan, DAÜ KENT-AG Merkezi Başkan Yardımcısı Yrd.Doç.Dr. Pınar Uluçay, DAÜ Mimarlık Bölümü öğretim üyesi Yrd.Doç.Dr. Ceren Boğaç, DAÜ KENT-AG Merkez Yönetim Kurulu Üyesi Yrd.Doç.Dr. Nurcan Gündüz, Lefkoşa Türk Maarif Koleji Türk Dili ve Edebiyatı Öğretmeni Dilül Sakallı, Şair-Yazar Mehmet Kansu ve KKTC MEKB Bakanlığı temsilcisi Müfettiş Nazan Kazaz yer alıyor. Yarışma sonunda her sınıf düzeyinden 5'er adet olmak üzere toplam 15 veya sınıf düzeylerine bakılmaksızın toplam 10 adet eşdeğer kompozisyon seçilecek. Sonuçlar, şartname takviminde belirtildiği şekilde, seçici kurulun toplantısının ardından, 11 Şubat 2019 tarihinde açıklanacak ve 20 Şubat 2019 tarihinde yapılacak törenle kazananların ödülleri takdim edilecek.

"Yarisma Şartnamesi"

The Urban Research and Development Center of Eastern Mediterranean University (URDC) with the approval of the Ministry of National Education and Culture is organizing an essay writing competition targeted at secondary school students!

The 6th, 7th and 8th grade secondary school students registered to the Ministry of National Education and Culture of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus are invited to enter the essay writing competition entitled 'City-War/Peace' where participants are encouraged to envision how conflicts in between people, societies and nations affect cities where human life nurture where the importance of peace towards the development and civilization of mankind and cities will be emphasized. Within this framework, the younger generation is encouraged to question how the natural and built environment surrounding us are affected by wars; what problems war-torn cities experience and what role individuals and institutions should take in overcoming post-war crises.  The competition mainly targets to;

  • Contribute to the development of skill building in youth relating to critical thinking, research, and writing.

  • Develop youth's point of view towards the world, cities, war versus peace. 

  • Create awareness on how cities transform over time.

The competition's jury is comprised of seven valuable members namely Prof.Dr. Ahmet Pehlivan, the Head of EMU Department of Turkish and Social Sciences Education; Asst.Prof.Dr.Pınar Uluçay, the Vice-Director of EMU Urban Research and Development Centre (URDC);  Asst.Prof.Dr. Ceren Boğaç, Full-time Professor of EMU Department of Architecture;  Asst.Prof.Dr. Nurcan Gündüz, Executive Committee Member of URDC; Dilgül Sakallı, Turkish Language and Literature Instructor of English School of Nicosia; Mehmet Kansu, Poet, Writer and Nazan Kazaz, Inspector of the Ministry of National Education and Culture.

The jury will select 5 essays from each grade, giving 15 awards in total or 10 equivalent honourable mentions without looking at grade level. The results will be announced as declared at the competition brief, 11th of February, 2019 and awards will be delivered on the 20th of February at the Awards Ceremony.
