Celebrating Public Space on the Occasion of World Children's Day

Celebrating Public Space on the Occasion of World Children
Published Date: Wednesday, 21 December 2022

World Children's Day is celebrated on 20 November each year to promote international togetherness and awareness among children worldwide and improve children's welfare. The day devoted to children was established in 1954 as Universal Children's Day.

November 20th is an important date as it was the date in 1959 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. It was also in 1989 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Since 1990, World Children's Day also marks the anniversary of the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration and the Convention on children's rights.

World Children's Day offers us an inspirational entry point to advocate, promote and celebrate children's rights, translating into dialogues and actions to build a better world for children.

With these in mind and the belief that children are our future and deserve healthy, accessible, joyful, and playful environments, we are organizing a webinar to discuss children, public spaces, and sustainable development goals. The event will be organized on 30th November 2022 – ten days after World Children's Day, as a part of the webinar series of EMU URDC and City Space Architecture to celebrate public space on the occasion of this special day.
