Eastern Mediterranean University Urba n Research and Development Center (EMU URDC) will be attending the 11th World Urban Forum (WUF11). “Power of Public Space for Post-Conflict Reconstruction in Contested Cities" entitled Networking Event suggested by the EMU Urban Research and Development Center received acceptance to be included in the 11th World Urban Forum program. EMU URDC Director Prof. Dr. Şebnem Hoşkara will be attending the event to be held in the Polish city of Katowice between 26th and 30th June, 2022. On behalf of the United Nations, the WUF11 is being organized by Poland's Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy. Representatives of national, regional, and local governments, academics, businesspeople, community leaders, urban planners, and civil society representatives will be among the thousands of people who are expected to attend the event.
The World Urban Forum (WUF) is the premier global conference on sustainable urbanization. The WUF was established in 2001 by the United Nations to examine one of the most pressing issues facing the world today: rapid urbanization and its impact on communities, cities, economies, climate change, and policies. The first WUF was held in Nairobi, Kenya in 2002 and has been held around the world ever since.
In the 11th World Urban Forum, 330 different events will take place under various topics such as “Sustainable Development Goals in Action", “One UN", “Voices from Cities", “Networking" and “Urban Library". Within the scope of these events, EMU Urban Research and Development Center will organize the “Power of Public Space for Post-Conflict Reconstruction in Contested Cities" networking event. The EMU URDC's event is also supported by the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP) and City Space Architecture (CSA) which has a cooperation agreement with EMU. To be held hybrid on the 30th of June, 2022 within the scope of the WUF11, the event is to be moderated by EMU URDC Director Prof. Dr. Şebnem Hoşkara and CSA Director Luisa Bravo. Moreover, EMU URDC Vice Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nevter Zafer Cömert will be one of the speakers at the event.
