18th April International Day for Monuments and Sites 2023

18th April International Day for Monuments and Sites 2023
Published Date: Friday, 14 April 2023

We are organizing a webinar to celebrate International Day for Monuments and Sites (IDMS) with our holistic thinking of the role of heritage as a driver and enabler of sustainable development.

ICOMOS established 18 April as the International Day for Monuments and Sites (IDMS) in 1982, and UNESCO then adopted the day during its 22nd General Conference.

This year ICOMOS announced the theme of the IDMS as HERITAGE CHANGES in order to keep with the spirit of open, innovative, constructive intergenerational dialogue and the strategic focus of the ICOMOS Triennial Scientific Plan 2021-2024 and the 2020 ICOMOS resolution on Approaches to Cultural Heritage.

Following the main intention of ICOMOS, our webinar will focus on 'Vernacular Settlements and Climate Action'. Our speakers will focus on vernacular heritage in relation to climate action through cases from different regions, such as Turkey, Jordan, West Africa, and Cyprus, while also addressing SDGs.

At the end of the event, we are aiming to learn from different local and traditional knowledge systems contributing to developing viable climate adaptation measures.

Please join us to celebrate the International Day for Monuments and Sites 2023!
