WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY ‘BEACH CLEANING EVENT’

 The beach cleaning activity proposed and developed by the students within the scope of the elective course titled ARCH 320, The UN Sustainable Development Goals: An Interdisciplinary Approach for the Future of Our Planet, carried out in the Department of Architecture, was held on the morning of June 8, 2023, as part of 5 June World Environment Day.

The beach cleaning event is sponsored by Eastern Mediterranean University Academic Staff Trade Union - DAÜSEN and supported by EMU Urban Research and Development Center (URDC).  ARCH 320 The UN Sustainable Development Goals: An Interdisciplinary Approach for the Future of Our Planet course students and course instructor Prof.Dr. Şebnem Hoşkara, Department of Architecture's ARCH 213 Ecological Issues in Architecture course students and course instructor Assist. Dr. Pınar Uluçay and EMU SDG Club students attended and performed the beach cleaning event.

The beach cleaning event, organized on the occasion of June 5, World Environment Day, is expected to contribute to finding a solution to plastic pollution, which is the main theme of 2023 World Environment Day, as well as contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals - Good Health and Well-being (SDG3), Climate Action (SDG13), Life below Water (SDG14) and Life on Land (SKA15) and to serve for environmentally sustainable development.
