URDC’S RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT PROJECT FOR BÜYÜKKONUK VILLAGE, N. CYPRUS, FUNDED BY BEARINGPOINT / EDGE

Urban Research & Development Centre, in cooperation with Homeland Design & Construction Co., was assigned to carry out a funded research and development project entitled "Landscape-Level Resource Illustration & Village Center Enhancement for Büyükkonuk village, N. Cyprus", following the approval of the proposal submitted to BearingPoint, Inc.'s EDGE (Economic Development and Growth for Enterprises) Project group.

The aim of the project is two folds:

- to provide an illustration of the natural and cultural resources of the Büyükkonuk village to inform and educate both villagers, local and foreign visitors about activity opportunities in and around Büyükkonuk village.

- to enhance the village centre to create a sense of place in general and promote it as "point of orientation" for visitors to Büyükkonuk in order to develop Büyükkonuk village as an "Eco-Village".

The project is being coordinated by Prof. Dr. Derya Oktay, and Bülent Potak (M.Arch), Project Manager of Homeland Design & Construction Co., is the Assistant Coordinator for the survey. A multi-disciplinary team of professionals and graduate students serve as surveyors and technical service is being provided by experts. The project period covers six months between 28 December 2006 - 30 June 2007.
