The mission of Eastern Mediterranean University's Urban Research and Development Center (URDC) is to improve understanding of and deliver innovative responses to urban challenges by providing a forum of contributions to the quality of urban environment to promote sustainable urban settlements.
Since its establishment in 1999, committed to serving Cyprus, the Center follows its mission by stimulating research into urban and regional issues and contributing to the knowledge in the field of urban planning and urban design for and on behalf of other parties within Cypriot settlements.
The Center also aims to evoke awareness amongst local people concerning urban environmental issues and to collaborate with other institutions of similar interest and establish inter-disciplinary links both at the local and international levels.

At the 10th anniversary of its Urban Design Graduate Program (MSc in Urban Design), EMU Department of Architecture is organizing an international virtual conference in collaboration with EMU Urban Research and Development Center (URDC). This international virtual conference, to be organised on 9-11 December 2020 is dedicated to 'Young Researchers Forum@Re-Discovering Urban Design' will include presentations related to ongoing and/or completed doctoral and/or master's research and/or post-doctoral research on urban design, with the aim to provide overarching views on urban design education and research. STORYBOARDING THE HOME AND THE CITY
The Housing, Education, Research and Advisory Center (HERA-C) of the Faculty of Architecture & Urban Research Development Center (URDC) of Eastern Mediterranean University proudly presents the third of their podcast series 'Storyboarding the Home and the City'. In her audio presentation entitled 'How to Touch the Earth? which will be released on the 24th of July 2020' at the Faculty's youtube channel, Dr.Burcu Serdar Köknar will talk about the significance of our direct attachment to the planet, the act of collective happening–a value we remembered with the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic-, where she will be questioning how the city would look like if people produced and acted together.
